BENJAMIN HARRISON BRIDGE TO BE CLOSED OVERNIGHT TUESDAY

Crews will continue work on elevator replacement project during closure

Benjamin Harrison Bridge/Route 156 (Prince George/Charles City) – As part of a construction project, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the Benjamin Harrison Bridge on Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156) from 8 p.m. Tues., Sept. 13 through 6 a.m. Wed., Sept. 14 and 8 p.m. Mon., Sept. 19 through 6 a.m. Tues., Sept. 20. Crews are working to replace the bridge’s elevator, located in the structure’s lift span. The closures will be in place so crews can pressure wash the lift span towers.

Local drivers are encouraged to use the posted detour:

Take Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156) south to Route 10 west. Take Interstate 295 north to Route 5 (Exit 22A) back to Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156).

Through travelers can use Interstates 295 and 64 or the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as alternate routes to the Hampton Roads area.

Crews will also use alternating lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday for related elevator replacement work.

The lift span will remain open during closures to allow marine traffic passage. For more information about the Benjamin Harrison Bridge improvement projects, visit http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/richmond/benjamin_harrison_bridge_improvements.asp.
