Draft Appomattox River Trail Master Plan Available for Review and Comment

PETERSBURG, VA, October 24, 2016. — Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) is pleased to announce that the draft Appomattox River Trails Master Plan is now available for review and comment on the FOLAR website (www.folar-va.org) through November 4. The plan includes recommendations for potential trail routes to link and enhance the parks and trails connecting the 23 miles between Lake Chesdin and City Point Park along the Appomattox River. The linear parks and trails along the Appomattox River are significant community assets that can serve a catalytic role in creating economic development, strengthening environmental stewardship, increasing opportunities for healthy activity, and developing a higher quality of life for all.

The draft plan is being developed by consulting firm, Land Planning & Design Associates, based on input from stakeholders and the public. This master planning effort is intended to engage our local communities along the river, including the counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie and Prince George, and the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg. In addition to viewing the plan online, there will be additional opportunities to attend public meetings about the draft plan in the coming few weeks.

An important part of the public outreach and planning work included development of a Branding and Signage Master Plan for the trail by AB Design. The resulting logo brand and signage plan will be finalized and included in the final trail Master Plan.

For further information about the Draft Master Plan and additional public meetings, please visit FOLAR’s website at http://folar-va.org/you-are-invited-to-review-the-appomattox-river-trail-draft-master-plan/

This master planning project is made possible through a grant from The Cameron Foundation, which strives to transform the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties into a healthy, vibrant and economically vital region by strategically leveraging resources for community impact.
