UPCOMING TRAFFIC SHIFT FOR I-95 TEMPLE AVE. INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
Westbound traffic is set to shift to new pavement by Friday, April 7. Traffic will shift to the left (heading westbound) in the median of the existing travel lanes (shown above).
Project update and traffic shift information:
Crews have been working on grading, curb work and new pavement along Temple Avenue for the latest traffic shift. Starting Friday, April 7, weather permitting, westbound traffic on Temple Avenue will be shifted to the left of the current travel lanes. From April 3-6, crews will be installing pavement markings and moving concrete barriers to complete the traffic shift. The shift will not affect eastbound traffic.
Monday, April 3
Temple Ave./Route 144 east – The right lane will be closed 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Hamilton Ave. to the I-95 ramps for overhead sign foundation work.
Tuesday, April 4
Temple Ave./Route 144 east – The right lane will be closed 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Hamilton Ave. to the I-95 ramps for overhead sign foundation work.
Wednesday, April 5
Temple Ave./Route 144 east/west – Alternating lanes will be closed 8 p.m. Wednesday-6 a.m. Thursday from Hamilton Avenue to the I-95 ramps in preparation for the upcoming traffic shift.
Thursday, April 6
Temple Ave./Route 144 east/west – Alternating lanes will be closed 8 p.m. Thursday-6 a.m. Friday from Hamilton Avenue to the I-95 ramps in preparation for the upcoming traffic shift.
Friday, April 7
Weather permitting, traffic heading west on Temple Ave./Route 144 will use the new travel lanes. Eastbound traffic will remain unaffected.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution and follow the signs and pavement markings through the new travel pattern.

Project information
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is improving the interchange at the I-95 ramps and Temple Ave. in Colonial Heights. The project will replace the existing interchange with a roundabout and extend the interstate ramps to improve safety and smooth traffic flow.
