TEMPORARY CLOSURES PLANNED FOR BENJAMIN HARRISON BRIDGE AT PRINCE GEORGE/CHARLES CITY LINE EARLY WEDNESDAY

Drivers should use posted detour; expect delays

Benjamin Harrison Bridge/Route 156 (Charles City/Prince George) –Maintenance crews will be updating computer programming for the Benjamin Harrison Bridge’s auxiliary drive, which raises and lowers the lift span, beginning after midnight on Wednesday, July 26.

The work will require intermittent closures throughout the early morning hours, ending by approximately 6 a.m., weather permitting.

The bridge is located over the James River at the Prince George/Charles City line and carries approximately 4,500 vehicles per day.

During the closure timeframes, local drivers are encouraged to use the posted detour to avoid delays:
• Take Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156) south to Route 10 west. Take Interstate 295 north to Route 5 (Exit 22A) back to Jordan Point Road (Route 106/156).
Through travelers can use Interstates 295 and 64 or the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as alternate routes to the Hampton Roads area.
