Animal Impoundment

All dogs four (4) months of age or older must wear a collar displaying their rabies vaccination tag and dog license tag. Dogs will be impounded if they are found without a collar having the owner's identification or license affixed. If the animal is wearing an identification tag, its owner will be notified of its impoundment. If a stray dog is found with identification, it will be held for 12 days. If a stray dog is found without identification, it will be held for 7 days. If a stray dog is not reclaimed by its owner within the holding period, it will become available for adoption or rescue through Prince George County Animal Services & Adoption Center.

There will be a redemption fee charged if the owner comes forward to reclaim their animal. For the first offense, this fee will be $20.00; for the second offense, it will be $30.00; and for the third and any additional offenses, the fee will be $40.00. An additional boarding fee of $10.00 will be charged for each day the animal is not picked up.
