REGISTERED DESIGN PROFESSIONALS,
AND PROPERTY OWNERS

RE: 2021 VIRGINIA UNIFORM STATEWIDE BUILDING CODE IN EFFECT

Building Codes

Per Prince George County ordinance section 10-1, enforcement of Parts I, II, and III of each adopted code edition of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) and the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (VSFPC) is required. The effective date of the 2021 Uniform Statewide Building Code, 2021 Statewide Fire Prevention Code, 2021 Industrialized Building Safety Regulations and the 2021 Amusement Device Regulations is January 18, 2024.

Prince George County is currently enforcing the 2021 code edition of the Virginia Library of Building Codes.

Permit Application Requirements

Any applicant may request to have the permit application reviewed under the 2018 VUSBC code edition until January 18, 2025.
This request must be indicated on the application at the time of submission.

See code excerpt below from 2021 VUSBC section 103.2:

Construction for which a permit application is submitted to the local building department on or after the effective date of the 2021 edition of the code shall comply with the provisions of this code, except for permit applications submitted during a 1-year period beginning on the effective date of the 2021 edition of the code. The applicant for a permit during such 1-3year period shall be permitted to choose whether to comply with the provisions of this code or the provisions of the edition of the code in effect immediately prior to the 2021 edition. This provision shall also apply to subsequent amendments to this code based on the effective date of such amendments. In addition, when a permit has been properly issued under a previous edition of this code, this code shall not require changes to the approved construction documents, design or construction of such a building or structure, provided the permit has not been suspended or revoked.

 

4 PM BURNING LAW IN EFFECT
FEBRUARY 15th – APRIL 30th
MAXIMUM FINE $500.00

BURNING LAW IN BRIEF:

  1. No burning until after 4:00 p.m. if the fire is within 300 feet of woodland, brushland, or field containing dry grass or other inflammable material.
  1. Fire must be attended at all times if the fire is within 150 feet of woodland or other dry fuel leading to woodland.
  1. No fuel may be added or fire started after midnight.
  1. Law applies to campfires, warming fires, brush piles, household trash, stumps, fields of dry grass and brush, or anything capable of spreading fire.
