Suspect Charged with Rash of HVAC Thefts

(Prince George, VA) – Suspect Charged with Rash of HVAC Thefts

The Prince George County Police Department has identified and arrested a suspect in recent air conditioning (HVAC) unit thefts. The suspect, identified as Scott Sykora, is a 43-year-old resident of Hopewell, Virginia.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Sykora was stealing the interior parts of air conditioner units from homes, businesses, and churches. He then took the stolen components to a scrap metal facility in Richmond, exchanging them for money. Detectives have identified ten known cases of theft in Prince George alone. Similar thefts have also occurred in other jurisdictions, Prince George Detectives are coordinating with the other localities to assist in their investigations.

The estimated cost of damage and theft caused by Sykora's actions is $100,000. He is currently charged with Felony Destruction of Property and Larceny and is being held at Riverside Regional Jail.
