Benjamin Harrison Bridge Traffic to be Directed by Flaggers

Motorists should drive with caution in the work zone

Charles City/Prince George, VA -  Starting Monday, April 22, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a maintenance project to complete the replacement of the span locks on the Benjamin Harrison Bridge. Work will be completed on intermittent days, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During this time traffic will be flagged in alternating lanes. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed in September 2024.

There will also be periodic bridge lifts at various points throughout the workday. These lifts will not last longer than 20 minutes.

The Benjamin Harrison Bridge is located on Route 156 (Jordan Point Road) over the James River at the Charles City/Prince George County line.

Motorists are urged to stay alert in work zones and pay close attention to changes in traffic patterns.

Anyone with questions about the project can call VDOT's customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
